We’re excited to offer students ages 14 to 18 the same great opportunities to “tune-up” their bikes as our adult classes–no previous experience required!
In a structured, fun and supportive environment this week-long learning experience helps campers gain confidence and be empowered both on and off the road.
Working on their own bikes in the mornings, participants will go through each step of a tune-up including:
- flat repair
- basic maintenance
- brake cable adjustment
- shifter cable adjustment
- bearing adjustments
- wheel truing
Students will leave with a few new tools of their own to keep wrenching after camp is over.
Afternoons will find campers exploring with field trips by bike to get behind the scenes with local bike shops and manufacturing businesses and give riders a chance to practice riding skills-like proper shifting and rules of the road. (5- 10miles max).
On the last Friday of each session, campers will volunteer on a project to give back to the Bike Farm, the non-profit bike-repair space where the camps are located.
Small camp sizes (limited to 10 students) with two professional instructors (including Tori Bortman, Owner and Head teacher at Gracie’s Wrench) make sure each participant gets plenty of personal attention.
